STEP 02

Quotation & Technical Specification

To get accurate quotes from builders, we'll normally need to create a technical specification for your home. There are a few exceptions: for Solar PV & Battery or Cavity Wall Insulation, we can request quotes directly from contractors. If you're looking at Heat Pumps or MVHR, we'll just need to complete a Heat Pump Survey or MVHR Design first.

Technical Specification

What it is

We create a detailed instruction guide for your contractors. This ensures everyone quotes for the exact same high-quality work, allowing you to compare prices fairly with no hidden surprises.

What's included

A complete technical package featuring breathable material specs (to prevent damp), building regulation compliance checks, annotated floorplans and a clear step-by-step guide for the tradespeople on site.

Sourcing & Reviewing Quotes

What it is

We take the stress out of finding reliable tradespeople. We reach out to our network of trusted local installers to get competitive quotes for your specific project.

What's included

Our expert team carefully reviews and verifies every quote to ensure fair pricing, correct methods and no missing details. We then provide clear, independent advice to help you choose the right team with confidence.

How Pricing Works for Specifications
  • If you had a Whole House Plan: Your site measurements are included free. You simply pay the individual design fees for the measures you select below.
  • If you had a Retrofit Options Survey: We need to take detailed measurements before writing your spec. You will pay a one-off measurement fee (£80 up to 4 beds / £100 for 4+ beds) plus the individual design fees for your selected measures.

Here is the breakdown of the design fees per individual measure. You can mix and match these depending on exactly what you plan to install:

Improvement Measure What's Covered Design & Spec Fee
Internal solid wall insulation (IWI) Detailed specifications for breathable solid wall insulation applied indoors. £60.00
External solid wall insulation (EWI) Full design brief for render systems and external wall insulation. £60.00
Loft insulation Guidance on topping up or laying fresh loft insulation to correct depths. £30.00
Flat roof insulation Specifications for warm or cold flat roof insulation systems. £60.00
Room in roof / Skeiling insulation Tailored insulation details for room-in-roof spaces and sloping ceilings. £50.00
Floor insulation - solid Materials and build-up details for insulating solid concrete floors. £25.00

Frequently Asked Questions

How does your service differ from a traditional builder or architect?

Think of us as your home’s energy advocate. While architects design spaces and builders focus on construction, our sole expertise is how your home uses energy, holds heat and breathes.

Because a house functions as a single connected system, making a change in one room, like adding insulation, alters moisture levels and airflow across the whole building. Individual installers only look at their specific trade but we look at the complete picture. This prevents costly mistakes like damp or mould down the line while maximizing the energy savings from your upgrades.

As an independent Community Interest Company, we don't sell products or take commissions on materials. Our guidance is entirely impartial and driven purely by what is best for your home.

What if I’m planning an extension or major renovation?

It’s actually the ideal time to speak with us! We offer dedicated Retrofit Design services to make sure your new extension integrates seamlessly with your main house's energy strategy. This prevents common issues like cold spots, ventilation problems or mismatched heating requirements down the line.

Can I just get quotes for Solar PV & Battery storage?

Yes! Certain standalone measures like Solar PV, Battery Storage, or Cavity Wall Insulation don't require a full technical specification package. We can go straight to requesting competitive quotes from our trusted network of installers for you.

Which areas do you cover?

We primarily work across Greater Manchester and the surrounding local areas. If you're unsure whether we cover your location, feel free to drop our team a quick message and we'll be happy to let you know!
